Driver charged in Ledyard swimming pool crash

Ledyard —A New Britain man who was driving a car that seriously injured two children when he struck a telephone pole on Route 12 and landed upside down in a swimming pool early Sunday morning was arrested later Sunday at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital where he is recovering from his injuries.

Marcus Harvin, 25, of New Britain, was charged with reckless driving, first-degree reckless endangerment and failure to obey an officer’s signal.

The condition of the children was not available Monday, but one child suffered a fractured leg and the other a serious arm injury, police said.

Police said the accident remains under investigation and more charges may be pending.

Harvin served six months in prison for a 2012 drunken driving conviction and is currently on probation. He also has cases pending in Superior Court for third-degree assault, disorderly conduct, violation of probation and second-degree failure to appear in court.

The Ledyard accident reconstruction team and state police responded to investigate the 1 a.m. crash. The area of Route 12 and Long Cove Road was closed for several hours as police investigated and the utility pole was replaced.
