Old Saybrook police investigate series of car break-ins

Old Saybrook – Police are investigating an overnight burglary spree in which 18 vehicles in 11 locations were burglarized.

All of the vehicles that were entered were left unlocked, police said. Items of value were stolen from at least two vehicles. Most of the vehicles that were entered had nothing evident missing.

Police said the burglaries occurred in the Floral Park neighborhood, including Channelside Drive, Rocky Point Road, Riverside Avenue and Sunrise Avenue.

Police said no homes were entered.

Old Saybrook Lt. Kevin R. Roche said in a statement that police continue to investigate three more incidents, one in May in which more than 30 vehicles were entered in the Maple Avenue, Knollwood and Fenwood area of town. There was another in February where multiple vehicles were entered in the North Cove area of town and one incident in which a weapon was stolen from the vehicle.

Police are asking vehicle owners to take basic safety precautions. Secure vehicles in a garage if possible or make sure the doors are locked. Don’t leave valuables or the keys in the vehicle. Leave the vehicle in a well-lit area or use lights with a motion detection device.

People should contact police if they see or suspect anything suspicious.

Anyone with information should contact Detective Perrotti at (860) 395-3142.
