Chelsea Groton Bank's Rachel Carlson, Assistant Secretary and Retail Lending Operations Administrator, and Jessica DeConto, Marketing Representative, graduated from the two-year Eastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program. At the graduation luncheon, held at Latitude 41° in Mystic, Chamber President Tony Sheridan emceed the event and Maria Miranda of Miranda Creative, the chamber's 2014 Citizen of the Year, gave the keynote address highlighting characteristics found in top leaders. Carlson and DeConto were honored along with 33 fellow graduates.
Carlson joined the bank in 2003 and previously held positions as Residential Mortgage Coordinator and Internet Application Coordinator. DeConto has been with Chelsea Groton since 2010 supporting the bank's marketing, sales, public relations and communication initiatives.

The Black Hawk of Niantic has once again had two fireworks cruises to benefit the local community as part of the Black Hawk and the Community program. During the Sailfest fireworks, more than 70 packages of diapers were donated by patrons viewing the fireworks from the boat. The diapers were taken to Riverfront Children's Center to be part of their diaper bank. On July 19, the Black Hawk joined in the Celebrate East Lyme Day festivities by taking a "Christmas in July" fireworks cruise. This annual trip is free for everyone with a donation of a new, unwrapped toy. This year, children's books were also collected to be delivered to Read to Grow. Robert Blinderman of Waterford has joined the sales team of Southern CT Freightliner, a full-service sales and service center for medium and heavy duty trucks by Freightliner, Mitsubishi Fuso, and Sprinter.
Blinderman, who has 30 plus years in the trucking industry, will focus his sales efforts in eastern Connecticut.

The Southeastern CT Women's Network has announced its 2014-2015 Board of Directors and Officers, as well as its 2014 award winners. Annual awards and installation of officers took place during the organization's June meeting.
Connie Plessman, academic coordinator for Southern Illinois University at Groton Sub Base and long-time network board member and past president, was named Woman of the Year. She helped develop the Pathways to a Safe Future drive. The award was announced by 2013 recipient Camilla Ross, president of Emerson Theater Collaborative.
The 17th Annual Heron Award was presented by long-time network member and past president Kathleen O'Beirne to Judy Ricketts-White. The award recognizes a woman who possesses and demonstrates the qualities of the Blue Heron, as depicted in O'Beirne's book "Birds of a Feather: Lessons from the Sea." Ricketts-White has served as the network newsletter editor and publisher for more than13 years, while being an active member for more than 17 years.
