    H.S. roundup: NFA girls edge Fitch 28-29 in ECC Large cross country meet

    East Lyme — Norwich Free Academy used its superior depth to edge Fitch 28-29 in a key Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division girls' cross country meet Monday at Rocky Neck State Park.

    The Wildcats (5-0, 2-0), who also defeated host East Lyme 19-39, watched Fitch's Habeeba Kamel and Nell Chidley finish 1-2 overall, but placed six runners before Fitch's No. 4 runner crossed the finish line.

    Sarah Burns placed third for NFA and Lindsay Sylvia was fourth and the Wildcats also enjoyed Top 10 finishes by Breanna Cubilla (seventh), Sydney Corl (eighth) and Sydney Kupis (10th).

    Kamel finished the 4k course in 16 minutes, 9 seconds for the Falcons (4-1, 2-1), who defeated East Lyme 21-34, and Chidley was three seconds back in 16:12. Alicia Moryoqui added a fifth for Fitch.

    East Lyme (0-4, 0-4) was led by Kirsten Thompson, who finished sixth, while Lillian Whittaker was ninth.

    Boys' cross country

    • Unbeaten NFA cruised to ECC Large wins over East Lyme (20-43) and Fitch (15-50) at Rocky Neck, while East Lyme earned a split by defeating Fitch 20-35. Vann Moffett was the overall winner for East Lyme (3-1, 3-1), finishing his home 5k course in 17:09, while NFA (5-0, 2-0) took the next seven spots with Connor Gralton finishing second, Tyler Sholes third, Brandon Mehlinger fourth and Luke Shea fifth. Tom Readett was 10th for Fitch (2-3, 0-3).

    Volleyball

    • Mae Sefransky had 30 assists and Jen Severino 24 kills as unbeaten Fitch rallied to beat East Lyme 16-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-4, 15-12 in the ECC Large. Mackenzie Aldridge had 12 kills and nine digs for Fitch (6-0, 1-0). Alexis Bell had 29 assists and Maggie Powers 12 kills for East Lyme (3-2, 1-1). Also, Madison Bell had 40 digs and Megan Appleton had nine kills.

    • Jill Sykora had 13 digs and Mikayla Tourjee nine kills as Waterford swept Montville 25-15, 25-19, 25-17 in the ECC Medium. Opal Willox had three blocks for Waterford (4-1, 1-0). Olivia Fargo had 20 digs and four aces, Christi Johnson had 10 digs and Sarah Monahan had three kills for Montville (1-4, 0-1).

    • Old Lyme won its first Shoreline Conference match of the season by rallying for a 25-14, 12-25, 19-25, 25-21, 15-13 victory over North Branford. Colleen Mueller had six aces and six kills for the Wildcats (2-3, 1-2) while Livy Schumacher added 11 kills and Marissa Smith had 20 assists.

    • Anna Hammar had 15 kills and four blocks in Norwich Tech's 25-22, 28-26, 23-35 and 25-9 win over Windham Tech in the Constitution State Conference East. Chloe Guzman added 13 assists and Madison Bodley 10 digs and eight kills for Norwich Tech (3-2, 2-0).

    • Sydney Tetreault had 20 kills and Monet Smith 15 kills as Ellis Tech beat Grasso Tech 25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 25-21 in a CSC East match. Kierra Sebastien had 11 kills, Vanessa Parra seven kills and Patience Hamilton six kills for Grasso.
