Analysis: There's still a week remaining until Coast Guard's annual rivalry game against the Merchant Marine Academy, which will be televised on ESPN3 on Veterans Day and the Coast Guard players realize they have to "turn off the surrounding noise," as center Hudson Dunaway said, and focus on WPI. "We scrimmaged these guys (until this year) and we always thought we belonged with them," Dunaway said. The Bears are also coming off a bye week, which allowed them to sharpened their newly unveiled run-based offense, but also required a measure of mental focus. "It's important to get the game feeling again," Dunaway said. "During a bye week you recoup your schoolwork that's just monstrous; you kind of forget you have a football game to play."... Coast Guard ran for more yards than it passed for the first time this season in a Oct. 21 loss to MIT (30-21), finishing with 187 on the ground and 132 in the air. The Bears defense is allowing 20.8 points per game. ... WPI has a four-game winning streak, coming off last week's 24-21 victory over MIT. In that game, WPI linebacker Nick Ostrowski had 11 tackles, forced a fumble and returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown to earn NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. ... WPI swept last week's player of the week honors, with running back Sean McAllen (27 carries, 185 yards, 1 TD) winning the offensive award and kicker/punter Spencer Herrington being noted for special teams. ... Coast Guard and WPI are playing for the first time since 2005, a 23-13 WPI victory. Coast Guard's last win against the Engineers came in 2003 (24-21).
