Car ends up in pond after Essex crash

Essex — One car ended up in a pond Monday morning after a crash that involved two Old Lyme drivers, according to state police.

Police said William J. Visgilio, 20, of 6 Whitman Lane, Old Lyme, was driving north on state Route 154 when he slowed to make a right onto Fordham Road. It was shortly before 10:30 a.m.

That’s when 19-year-old August N. Cummins, traveling behind Visgilio, failed to stop, according to police. Cummins lives at 29 Mile Creek Road in Old Lyme.

The impact sent the 2010 Volvo XC60 T6 that Visgilio was driving into the small pond that lines the intersection.

Wreckers towed both the Volvo and the 2004 Toyota Sienna X that Cummins was driving. Police described the vehicles' damage as heavy and disabling.

Neither driver was injured. No charges were immediately filed.
