Reggaeton and Latin pop, as well as Latin trap, have been very popular music genres of late. Cardi B can mostly be credited with that explosion, but it’s her collaboration with other Latin pop stars such as Bad Bunny and 21 Savage that have helped set the genre on fire. Stepping into that scene is also reggaeton and Latin-pop star Farruko, who will be headlining at Foxwoods’ Grand Theater Friday.

Hailing from Puerto Rico, Farruko has already made a slew of hits, such as “Mi forma de Ser” and “Chillax”— both garnering millions of YouTube views since their respective releases in January and in 2016. Farruko's collaborations with Nicki Minaj and Bad Bunny have also helped put him on the map, but his unique style and the cinematic quality of his music videos have separated Farruko from the crowd. In “AMG,” Farruko navigates a fluorescent purple “Terminator”-esque urban scene while driving in a fancy Mercedes. In “Mi Forma,” he rides through the desert on a camel like a sheikh. Which got me thinking, why are camels a thing for hip hop artists to feature in their music videos? Cardi B rides one while dressed in an alluring green niqab in her “Bodak Yellow.” Macklemore pulls a camel through his “Can’t Hold Us.” Rapper Youngsta rides his throughout “Arabian Gan$ter,” and, well, the list goes on.

I've also noticed that Farruko likes to swathe himself in various forms of silk scarves and apparel — I wonder if this fashion statement will catch on the way camels have. An easy way to find out would be to stop by his show Friday and see what the kids are wearing.
