New London firefighters deliver baby outside headquarters
New London — The city's fire department headquarters saw some excitement Friday night, with the crew delivering a baby right outside on Bank Street.
The family's car — the father was driving, with the mother in the front passenger seat and their daughter in the back seat, Battalion Chief Mark Waters said — stopped outside the headquarters building a little after 8 p.m. The crew is trained to assist in such emergencies, Waters said. Lt. Jeremy Hynek and firefighters Barry Fuller, Joseph Nott, Knute Malinowsky and Michael Gentile helped deliver the baby — a boy — in the front seat of the vehicle.
Waters said the mother and baby were transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. Their names and condition were not available.
