Mashantucket — Foxwoods Resort Casino’s slot-machine revenue declined by 8 percent in March compared to the same month the previous year, data released Monday show.

The casino, along with its southeastern Connecticut rival, Mohegan Sun, has experienced nine straight months of year-over-year decreases in slots revenue, a slide attributed in part to competition from MGM Springfield, the nearly $1 billion resort casino that opened last summer in western Massachusetts.

Mohegan Sun reported Friday that its March slots “win” was down 6.7 percent.

Foxwoods kept $40.1 million in slots revenue last month after paying out prizes. It kept $43.6 million in March 2018. In terms of total slots wagers, known as “handle,” Foxwoods took in $489.4 million last month, 5.2 percent less than a year ago.

Foxwoods diverted $10 million of its March slots win to the state’s General Fund.

Massachusetts gaming regulators are expected to release MGM Springfield’s March revenue numbers Tuesday.
