Finally! With all of those singing-competition TV series out there, you would have thought one would have been created earlier to focus on another bedrock element of a good record: songwriting. The new series “Songland” is indeed an interesting glimpse into songwriting — and song-revising. These emerging artists get feedback from a panel of successful producer-writers, Ryan Tedder, Ester Dean and Shane McAnally. And it's cool that the numbers are meant for specific artists, from John Legend to the Jonas Brothers, who offer their own reactions and advice. The best part, though, is watching all the participants collaborate; the creative process is amazing to experience.
