A paradise for butterflies

A painted lady butterfly (Vanessa cardui) alights on a buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentals) along the edge of the pond in the Connecticut College Arboretum Monday, July 15, 2019. The 750-acre arboretum contains 5,984 scientifically documented living plants in its collections representing 809 taxa as 2,537 trees, 3,413 shrubs, and 34 vines.
