Police: New London woman remains hospitalized after truck strike
New London — The pedestrian struck and seriously injured by a pickup truck Monday still was hospitalized as of Thursday afternoon, police said.
Police said Luisa Garcia, 53, of New London was pushing an empty stroller across Vauxhall Street about 8:45 a.m. Monday when Robert Whittaker, 29, of Groton drove into her near the Goodyear at 527 Vauxhall St.
Firefighters said Whittaker had made a sharp left from Phillips Street before he struck Garcia. His truck then apparently traveled up a stone wall in front of 524 Vauxhall St. before landing on its passenger side on the wrong side of the road.
Crews took Garcia and Whittaker to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, though firefighters said Whittaker’s injuries were not serious.
Police said the crash is under investigation.
