Commack, N.Y. — The New London/Mystic team was eliminated from the Intermediate League baseball (ages 12-13) Eastern Regional on Monday, falling 16-15 to Montgomery, N.Y.

New London/Mystic starting pitcher Colin O'Leary struck out eight batters in 5.1 innings and was also 2-for-5 at the plate. Derell Mitchell homered, his fourth in four games in the tournament. Driving in runs for New London/Mystic were Trevin Robledo-Thompson, Sid Bulusu, Ethan Chavez, Darius Aquino and O'Leary. 

State LL baseball (10-12)

• The Section 3 championship game between Mystic and Madison was suspended by rain. Madison leads 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning of the game at Killingworth. It will be continued on Tuesday, starting at 5:30 p.m. 

DAZ tournament (11-12)

• Pawcatuck beat New London 12-10 in nine innings on Sunday in the Dominick A. Zuliani tournament in Groton. Cooper Light allowed one hit with six strikeouts over the final three innings for the win. Owen Bennett, Bryan Lowe, Patrick McGugan and Camden Ogden had two hits each for Pawcatuck and teammate Hagen Drake struck out seven over five innings. Juan Santiago-Droz had a two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game. Makhi Sebastian, Lou Anaya, Eddy Torres and Santiago-Droz each had multiple hits for New London.

• Waterford beat Groton 12-2 on Saturday. Matt Gonet, Matthew Shampine and Evan Bouges had two hits each for Waterford and Julian Ryno doubled for Groton.

• Jack Treat doubled home Erick Richmond with the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Montville beat Pawcatuck 5-4 on Friday. Treat had two hits and two RBI. Bryan Lowe had three hits and two RBI and Camden Ogden had two hits for Pawcatuck.

DAZ tournament (9-10)

• Nico Argarin struck out nine batters over three innings of one-hit ball as East Lyme beat Mystic 11-1 on Sunday. Cooper Siragusa had two hits and three RBI and Caleb Trost had two hits for East Lyme. Daimon Flax had a hit and drove in a run for Mystic.

• Max Montejano was the winning pitcher, had three hits and drove in two runs as East Lyme beat New London 13-3 on Saturday. JP Antonino had two hits and three RBI for East Lyme and Caleb Smith and Lloyd Kydd had two hits each for New London.

• Theo Lamonthe allowed two hits with five strikeouts over four innings for the win as East Lyme beat Groton 14-0 on Saturday. Nicholi Pray singled and doubled and Frank Campagna pitched two scoreless innings in relief for Groton.

NECBL

• The Mystic Schooners lost to the Vermont Mountaineers 12-7 in the New England Collegiate Baseball League on Sunday. Isaiah Byars (Alabama) homered and drove in four runs and former Montville standout TT Bowens (Central Connecticut) hit his 12th homer of the season for the Schooners.

Tigers rained out

• The New York-Penn League game between the Connecticut Tigers and the Brooklyn Cyclones was postponed due to rain. The teams will play a doubleheader on Aug. 22 when the Cyclones return to Norwich. The Tigers host the Staten Island Yankees in a three-game series, beginning Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. 

College honors

• Coast Guard had five cadet-athletes as well as both track and field teams honored for academic achievement by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Seniors Anita Green and Caroline Jenkins and juniors Anna Beck and Adora Lawrence earned USTFCCA All-Academic honors for the second straight season while junior Ben Zarlengo was named to the team for the first time in his career.

The men's team had a 3.26 GPA while the women's team finished with a 3.18 GPA to garner All-Academic team honors.  In order to be in contention for Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards: Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship and/or finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.
