MILFORD (AP) — A Connecticut couple convicted of stealing $20,000 worth of valuables from a dead woman's home, including her husband's Purple Heart, has been given two months to make restitution or risk jail time. 

The Connecticut Post reports that 27-year-old Christopher Lanci and 23-year-old Samantha Lanci pleaded to third-degree larceny Monday for robbing the Ansonia woman's home in August 2017.

Among the items reported missing were a diamond ring worth nearly $10,000, rare coins and the Purple Heart belonging to her World War II veteran husband.

Authorities say the couple sold the stolen items at pawn shops and used the money to buy drugs.

Prosecutors say if the Lancis don't pay $3,000 each in restitution by Dec. 3, they face 18 months behind bars.

The Purple Heart was never recovered.
