    Allyn reelected to Ledyard's top seat

    Ledyard — Mayor Fred Allyn III was reelected to the top seat in town by a vote of 2,160 to 555 over petitioning candidate Robert Lawrence on Tuesday night.

    "I'm happy and honored to serve another term," Allyn said at Gallup Hill School after results came in.

    He said economic development will continue to be his focus.

    Residents elected to the Town Council include incumbent Democrats Tony Sabilia, Bill Saums, Mary McGrattan, and Republicans Kevin Dombrowski, Andra Ingalls, Linda Davis, Tom Malone and John Marshall. Steve Eichelberg returns to the council after deploying with the National Guard in 2018, filling the seat of Mike Washington, who served on the council in his place. The council will have a Republican/Democrat split of 6 to 3. Davis, who chairs the council, was the top vote-getter with 2,012 votes.

    Residents elected to the Board of Education include incumbent Republicans Anthony Favry, Mike Brawner and Bob Guerrera, and Democrat Stephanie Calhoun; recent Republican appointees Steve Munger, Crystal Snyder and Robert Russak; and newcomer Democrats Naomi Rodriguez and Joanne Kelley. The board will have a Republican/Democrat split of 6 to 3. Favry, who chairs the board, was the top vote-getter with 1,789.

    Total voter turnout was 2,982, about 33 percent of registered voters.
