Some New London elected officials back Bernie Sanders for president

New London — Four of New London’s elected officials on Tuesday announced their endorsement of Sen. Bernie Sanders in the 2020 Democratic Presidential Primary.

City Councilor James Burke, Board of Education President Regina Mosley, Board of Education Vice President Jefferey Hart and Board of Education member Queenie Diaz will formally declare their endorsements at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, at Credabel Coral Lab, 153 Bank St.

Following speeches, volunteers will have the opportunity to sign up for upcoming door-knocking and phone events hosted by elected officials.

Each of the four released statements of endorsement, applauding Sanders' disruption of the status quo, civil rights advocacy, plans to cancel student debt, health care policies and climate change initiatives.

The New London Democratic Town Committee has not yet met to officially endorse a presidential candidate.
