    Music tip: "Thoughts and Prayers"

    Thoughts and Prayers

    Drive-By Truckers

Did you miss the Drive-By Truckers on Sunday's Grammys show? Of course you did; to my knowledge, the only time the best and most vital rock band in America was ever been nominated for a Grammy was for backing Booker T. Jones on an instrumental. Well, another excellent DBT album, "The Unraveling," is due Saturday, and the bouncy, vibrant first single, "Thoughts and Prayers," is already out. But don't let the song's jaunty hooks fool you. This is another brutal and harsh musical observation about the idiots running our country, based around the plague of gun violence and mass shootings. With references to the impending voting tsumani coming from "Generation Lockdown," vocalist Patterson Hood sings an anthemic farewell to do-nothing, platitude-spouting, NRA-bought-and-paid-for politicians: "Stick it up your (expletive) with your useless thoughts and prayers."
