Police release names of pedestrians struck in New London accident

New London — Police have released the identities of three people involved in a March 4 accident in which two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle in front of Electric Boat’s offices on Pequot Avenue.

Police at the scene said two EB employees were hit by a vehicle while walking on a sidewalk at the traffic circle near the entrance to EB. Police have identified the two pedestrians as Jennifer Grube of Norwich and Michael Lowry of Groton. Douglas Bennett of Quaker Hill was the driver.

Lowry was found by emergency personnel lying on the sidewalk and Grube in a dirt area, police said. Bennett was still in the car, which had jumped the curb, when emergency personnel arrived.

All three initially were transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. Their current conditions were not immediately available. Police, at the time of the accident, said Grube was seriously injured.

Police said the accident remains under investigation and provided no further details.
