Worker seriously injured after tree snaps, falls onto shed in Mystic

A tree worker in Mystic was seriously injured Monday morning when the tree he was climbing snapped 30 feet below him and fell onto a shed, trapping him underneath the tree, according to fire officials.

The 25-year-old man had climbed the tree on a residential property on Oral School Road to cut the top off. After he cut the top, the tree snapped 30 feet below him and toppled over onto a nearby shed, according to Ken Richards, chief of the Old Mystic Fire Department.

The department was called to the scene at 8:16 a.m. Firefighters worked to pull the tree off the man and extract him from the shed.

The man was flown by Life Star to Hartford Hospital in serious condition, Richards said.
