    UConn's Bueckers is named a Naismith finalist

    Atlanta — UConn women's basketball freshman Paige Bueckers was named one of four finalists for the 2021 Naismith Women's Trophy, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Thursday.

    The other finalists for the Naismith are Aliyah Boston of South Carolina, Dana Evans of Louisville and Kentucky's Rhyne Howard.

    Bueckers was named an Associated Press first-team All-American on Wednesday and was the first player to be named Big East Conference Player and Freshman of the Year and the Big East tournament Most Outstanding Player.

    Bueckers set the UConn freshman record with 146 assists this season. She leads the Huskies with 19.7 points, 6.1 assists and 2.3 steals per game as well as a 47.4 three-point field goal percentage.

    The Naismith winner will be anounced on April 3. The Huskies (24-1) begin NCAA tournament on Sunday against High Point.
