Cleanup in Ledyard park set for Saturday

Ledyard — To mark Earth Day, which is Thursday this week, there will be a cleanup here Saturday.

Anyone who would like to participate is asked to bring work gloves to help clean up Aljen Heights Park, 17 Aljen Ave., of litter and debris between 9 and 11 a.m. Saturday. State Rep. Mike France, R-Ledyard, is organizing the effort.

Volunteers are encouraged to wear face masks and follow social distancing guidelines during the event. Volunteers are asked to bring whatever personal safety equipment they prefer to use, as well as their own rakes, shovels, brooms, brush cutters and any other small, nonmotorized equipment. A limited number of free disposal bags and personal protective equipment will be available.

Volunteers are asked to sign up online at RepFrance.com/EarthDay.

"With warmer spring temperatures upon us, it's a great time to be outside and spend a few hours beautifying our parks and helping the environment for the long term," France said in a news release. "I encourage everyone to do what they can on a daily basis to preserve the environment for our children's children and beyond."
