Police identify woman killed in Mystic crash

Mystic — Police on Friday morning identified the woman who was killed Thursday in a crash in Mystic.

Michelle L. McMullen, 52, of Norwich was pronounced dead at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital on Thursday afternoon after being involved in a two-vehicle crash about 12:30 p.m. on Coogan Boulevard near the intersection of Jerry Browne Road, according to Stonington Police Department Capt. Todd Olson.

The driver of the other vehicle, 19-year-old Ryan Brown of Mystic, was injured and also taken to L+M Hospital, Olson said. Police did not know the extent of Brown's injuries or whether he remained in the hospital Friday, and a hospital spokeswoman said there was no record for him.

A spokeswoman for Hartford Healthcare confirmed that McMullen was an employee of the health system, which has a facility near the scene of the accident, but did not provide further details.

“This news is devastating to those of us who knew and loved her, as she was a valued member of our team. Her family is in our thoughts as they go through this difficult time,” said Kelly Martin, regional director of primary care for Hartford HealthCare Medical Group.

McMullen was driving a black Chevrolet sedan at the time of the collision. The car was badly damaged on the front driver's side. Brown's vehicle, a white Jeep, sustained heavy damage to the front end. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Coogan Boulevard was closed for several hours Thursday as the Regional Accident Reconstruction Team, with officers from the Stonington, Ledyard and Town of Groton police departments, investigated.

The cause of the crash had not yet been determined.
