    H.S. softball: Jenkins' homer lifts Fitch to 1-0 win in pitchers' duel with East Lyme

    Groton — Grace Jenkins homered in the fifth inning in Fitch High School's 1-0 victory over East Lyme Saturday in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I softball game at Washington Park.

    Charlotte Cabral pitched a six-hitter for Fitch (11-5, 11-5), striking out seven, to earn the shutout. Maddie Southers, Gabby Amaral and Alyson Cabral also had hits for the Falcons.

    Jaylyn Mueller had two hits for East Lyme (2-12, 2-12) and freshman pitcher Abby Robinson threw a five-hitter with seven strikeouts.

    In other games:

    • Iyana Kirvan hit a two-run single in the 10th inning to break a 4-4 tie and Ledyard finished off a doubleheader sweep of Stonington with an 8-5 victory.

    Ledyard won the first game 6-4 behind a pair of home runs from catcher Paige Perkins. Samantha Fancher was 3-for-3 with a homer, Samantha Money had an RBI double and pitcher Sara Rivers picked up the win for the Colonels (13-2 overall, 12-2 in ECC Division I). Phoebe Werling and Shea O'Connor were each 3-for-4 for Stonington (8-8, 8-8).

    In the second game, Ledyard tied it at 4 with two runs in the sixth. Perkins added another home run and Rivers and winning pitcher Aaliyah Amidon each had two hits. Tori LoPresto had two hits for Stonington and Maddy Stepski and O'Connor each doubled.

    • Caylee Parker struck out 10 and also scored a pair of runs in New London's 12-4 victory over Wheeler. Nalyce Dudley had three hits, including a two-run homer for New London (2-17) and Finella Smith, Ella Cook and Gabriela Santiago-Cruz had two hits each. Emma Cottingham had three hits for Wheeler (6-11) and Addie Hauptmann, Molly Butremovic and Maddie Perkins had two hits each.

    • No. 2 Waterford homered four times, two by winning pitcher Angela Colonis, to beat Griswold 22-0 in a game shortened to five innings because of the mercy rule. Colonis had six RBI and three runs scored in addition to pitching a two-hitter. Maddie Burrows (3 hits) and Bynn Holmes (2 hits) also homered for the Lancers (17-1) and Anna Donahue and Anna Dziecinny each doubled twice. Griswold is 14-3.

    • Kassidy LaTour pitched a one-hitter, striking out 10, for Lyman Memorial in a 12-0 win over Tourtellotte that lasted six innings. Madi Crawford, Kelsey Dunnack and Rylee Benway all drove in runs in a five-run fifth inning for the Bulldogs (10-6 overall, 10-6 ECC Division II) and Benway, Dunnack and Rayne Bobbi each had three hits in Lyman's 15-hit attack. Lindsey Houghton singled in the sixth inning for Tourtellotte.

    • Putnam outslugged St. Bernard for a 13-12 victory in ECC Division II. Angelica Tompkins had four hits and three runs scored for St. Bernard (1-15, 1-15) and Miloura Francois and Alyssa Lazarou had two hits each. Chloe Kerr and Lily Goyette each had three hits for Putnam.
