    Georgia State rolls to 35-14 victory over UConn in Atlanta

    Atlanta — Georgia State quarterback Darren Grainger hurt UConn with his arm and his legs, leading the Panthers to a 35-14 victory over the Huskies on Saturday night at Center Pac Stadium.

    Grainger rushed for a 142 yards and a touchdown while passing for 144 yards and another score as Georgia State (2-0) handed the winless Huskies their second straight loss.

    UConn returns home next Saturday to host Florida International at 3:30 p.m. at Rentschler Field.

    Running back Marcus Carroll also had a big game for the Panthers, rushing for 107 yards and three touchdowns.

    Georgia State led 21-0 at the half, holding the Huskies to just 88 total yards, then took complete control with its first drive of the second half by going 92 yards on 15 plays and scoring on Carroll’s three-yard run to take a 28-0.

    UConn lost starting quarterback Joe Fagnano to an apparent right shoulder injury late in the second quarter. He was replaced by Ta’Quan Roberson, who completed 19 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns for the Huskies, an 11-yard strike to Kevans Clericius with 9:16 remaining and a 32-yard pass to Brett Buckman with 3:57 to play.

    Roberson completed 19 of 30 passes for 216 yards while Buckman had nine catches for 93 yards. Georgia Tech completely shut down UConn’s rushing game, limiting the Huskies to just 50 yards on 31 carries.
