Book tip: "Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell, and Know

    Alexandra Horowitz

There are probably a lot of new puppies and rescue dogs who got new and blessed homes on Christmas - and why not? What could be a better gift? The awesomeness of dogs is well- and wonderfully documented, but our understanding of these best friends is continually evolving. In that context, and pursuant to the best possible friendship with your new (or existing) dog, I strongly recommend this book. Horowitz is not just an eloquent and passionate dog lover, she also teaches psychology, animal behavior and canine cognition at Columbia. What she has learned about the nature of dogs - both in support of long-held assumptions and, most importantly, in terms of new and stunning information - will delight you and make you relationship with your pet even more special. Plus: Horowitz writes in comfortable prose aimed at the layperson.
