One Book One Region kicks off

The area’s One Book One Region event kicks off at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 12 at the UConn Avery Point Branford House with a formal announcement of the book choice, “What the Eyes Don’t See: A Story of Crisis, Resistance, and Hope in an American City” by Mona Hanna-Attisha.

The book tracks one pediatrician’s efforts to combat the Flint, Mich., water crisis and protect the city’s children from lead poisoning. Copies are available at local public libraries, which will host related events.

Now in its third decade, One Book One Region was launched when librarians at the Groton Public Library were inspired by columnist Steven Slosberg’s 2001 article in The Day “What the Area Needs is One Good Read.” Hanna-Attisha will address the public and respond to questions at Connecticut College at 7 p.m. Sept. 20.

Visit OneBookOneRegion.org to find detailed information on book talks and programming.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
