Hartford HealthCare steps up office consolidation
Hartford HealthCare is stepping up the consolidation of its office space, purchasing one of the region’s largest vacant office buildings for $14.25 million. The parent of Hartford Hospital and six other hospitals in Connecticut said the acquisition of 9 Farm Springs Road in Farmington — once leased by aerospace giant United Technologies Corp before its merger in 2020 with what became Raytheon Technologies — will allow the health care system to reduce its office “footprint” by 60%.
Hartford HealthCare declined comment on how many employees would eventually work in Farmington, but it is likely to be hundreds, given the 133,000-square-foot size of the structure.
The consolidation comes after Hartford HealthCare opened its new headquarters at 100 Pearl St. in downtown Hartford. The health system spent $14 million on renovations and has moved 550 employees into the new quarters, a boost for downtown in the aftermath of the pandemic.
Bringing employees to downtown Hartford was part of a consolidation of nearly a dozen offices in Newington, Wethersfield, Farmington and on its Hartford Hospital campus, freeing up more space for patient care.
