    ‘We Are New London’ parade Sept. 24

    The sixth annual “We Are New London” parade is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24.

    Those wishing to participate are asked to gather on Washington Street near State Street at 1 p.m. The parade will proceed along State Street to Parade Plaza for a ceremony and remarks.

    “We do this to celebrate New London and show our pride,” said New London City Council President and parade chairperson Efrain Dominguez Jr. “This is for the residents and business owners and people who work here. Everyone who loves New London is invited to participate.”

    Parade organizers will not allow political banners or political attire of any kind.

    Waterford anti-racism series

    Learn how to be an anti-racist ally in a three-part series hosted by the Waterford Public Library. This series, facilitated by Aqua Drakes and Katie Burton of Drakes and Burton Consulting, will introduce participants to a basic vocabulary of race, how racism affects our lives, and how to be allies.

    Sessions will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Oct. 7, Nov. 4 and Dec. 2. Registration is required as space is limited. This program is funded by Waterford RISE, with support from the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut and Ledge Light Health District.     Greenleaf House tour in Norwich

    The Norwich Historical Society will sponsor a hard hat tour of the 1673 David Greenleaf House from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, as it celebrates continued progress in restoring the historic property.

    The Norwich Historical Society acts on behalf of the Society of the Founders of Norwich to write grants and secure funds for the rehabilitation of the Greenleaf House. Previous restoration work has included stabilization and rehabilitation of the rear exterior, the addition of primed vertical grain cedar clapboards, the installation of six new wood windows replicated with a six-over-six sash with 50 percent old glass, repairing and refastening of sheathing, and repairs to the building’s fascia, crown, and soffit.

    Use the driveway at the Leffingwell House Museum to access the site. Parking is available at the Leffingwell House Museum or behind 2 Town St.

    Reincarnation with author Sydney Sherman

    Connecticut author Sydney Sherman will examine the theory of reincarnation at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Preston Public Library, sharing how the idea of “past lives” has been studied throughout the ages and how recent science may have brought a plausible explanation and possible evidence to support an alternate life that transcends the “one body, one life” philosophy.

    Bags, Bubbly, and Bourbon fundraiser

    The Estuary is hosting its Bags, Bubbly, and Bourbon fundraiser from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at 220 Main St. in Old Saybrook. More than 50 new and gently used purses, sports bags, coolers, luggage and more will be available for bidding through a silent auction.

    Art with Purpose auction

    Thrive 55+ Active Living Community in Groton is having its biannual Art with Purpose Auction Event from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29. Area artists have donated a piece of their artwork to be auctioned off the night of the event.
