    Leprechauns loose at Bill Library

    The Bill Memorial Library in the City of Groton during March invites children to search for leprechaun footprints. Pick up a tally sheet at the front desk and count the number of footprints you find. Return your tally sheet to the librarian for a prize. Call the library at 860-445-0392 for more information.

    Craft show in Waterford March 24

    The Waterford Regional Lions Club is sponsoring a Souper Sunday Craft and Vendor Show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at the Waterford Community Center, 24 Rope Ferry Road, Waterford. For information, call 860-912-1129.

    East Lyme Public Library book groups

    A Men’s Book Group meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, is one of several planned the rest of this month at East Lyme Public Library. Copies of “The Wingmen” by Adam Lazarus are available in advance, no registration necessary.

    Also, the Mystery Book Group meets at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, discussing “No Strangers Here” by Carlene O'Connor.

    The Silent Book Group meets the last Monday of the month, 6-8 p.m. on March 25. Bring your own book and enjoy the community of fellow readers in a quiet atmosphere

    The Out-of-this-World Book Group meets 7 p.m. April 10, discussing “A Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet” by Becky Chambers.

    A science fiction and fantasy book discussion group meets bimonthly on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. Copies of the current month’s book are available at the library; no registration is necessary.

    United States Wrestling Federation food drive

    The United States Wrestling Federation will be having a pro wrestling food drive starting 6 p.m. March 30 at the Mystic VFW, 60 Stonington Road. The show starts at 7 p.m., and the food drive will benefit the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center.

    The evening will have a jam-packed roster with WWE, ECW, and NWA legends in attendance. Some of the featured matches will be ECW original Angel Orsini managed by Marsha Maraschino vs. Dajae Simone for the vacant Center Ring Women’s title. Semi main event will be WWE legend Richie Rich vs Zacharia Gibbs.

    Easter service at McCook’s Point

    An Easter sunrise service will be held at McCook’s Point, Niantic, at 6 a.m. Sunday, March 31. Hosted by members of area churches, the annual Sunrise Service has become a tradition for many East Lyme and Niantic residents. The service is open to all who wish to begin their Easter celebration at daybreak, rain or shine.

    Weed prevention tips April 6

    Weeds got you down? Master Gardener Patricia Mandell will share tips to help you tame your overgrown garden or yard from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 at Bill Memorial Library in Groton City.

    Topics include how to identify weeds, the difference between weeds and invasive plants, how to control weeds without pesticides and more. Registration is free, but program size is limited. Call the library at 860-445-0392.

    East Lyme library events

    The East Lyme Public Library is celebrating the Great North American Total Solar Eclipse from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, April 8, for all ages. Free eclipse glasses are now available at the library, and on the day of the event there will be indoor and outdoor activities.

    Also upcoming is Trivia Night at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26. Come by yourself or with family or friends.

    Short story writing class registration

    Registration for the Town of Groton Parks & Recreation's spring series of short story writing classes is now taking place, open to adults throughout Connecticut and Rhode Island. Many of these students have been published in the literary marketplace, a goal of the program.

    Classes are taught by local published novelist Nicholas Checker, and begin Monday, April 15, and Wednesday, April 17. Monday classes meet 4-6 p.m., and Wednesday classes, 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Groton Community Center, 61 Fort Hill Road, Groton, next door to Town Hall.     Spring wellness lecture series

    Phone and online registration is now open for Westerly Hospital’s spring wellness lectures. All events are free and will be held in the Henry J. Nardone Conference Room at Westerly Hospital. Registration is required.

    The first of the series, from 5-6 p.m. April 17, will feature Dr. Louis Mazzarelli talking about lung cancer screening with low-dose CT, the benefits of early detection and available treatments.

    From 5-6 p.m. April 24, Dr. Christopher Regan will address “Understanding peripheral artery disease (PAD).” Learn ways to prevent, recognize and treat PAD, a common circulatory condition in the legs and feet.

    The benefits of physical therapy for urinary incontinence will be the topic from 5-6 p.m. May 1. Speaker Bridget Gamache, PT, will explain how physical therapy can improve muscle function and decrease symptoms.

    Keeping your lungs healthy will be the topic 5-6 p.m. May 8. Discuss common conditions that affect the lungs and when symptoms should not be ignored. The speaker will be Kathryn Graves, APRN.

    Shredding event in Old Saybrook

    The Old Saybrook Rotary Club plans service projects that focus on environmental sustainability, including its 4th Annual Shredding Event from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 20 at Old Saybrook High School.

    There is a donation of $10 per box (size based on Copy Box), and the event takes place rain or shine. Proceeds will go to support the towns of Old Saybrook, Westbrook, and Lyme/Old Lyme.

    Preston Palooza seeks sponsors

    The parent-teacher organization from Preston Plains Middle School and the nonprofit Building Us are hosting the eighth annual Preston Palooza from 4:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Preston Veterans Memorial School. Right now, they are seeking sponsors of the event.

    The Preston fundraiser will include food, cotton candy, snow cones, carnival games, moonwalks, dunk tank, bubble soccer, pony rides and other fun activities.
