NO CONTEST PLEA BY WOMAN IN CHILD MOLESTATION CASE

A 50-year-old Norwich woman has pleaded no contest to inappropriately touching a 4-year-old boy that she befriended.

Kathleen Campbell will be sentenced in November to up to two years in prison for risk of injury to a minor. She will be on probation for 10 years following her release and is required to register as a sex offender.

Campbell, who often volunteered to take the boy to the playground, was charged after the boy told his parents that Campbell had taken him to her apartment on Mohegan Park Road in September 2007 and touched him on his privates. Campbell told police she had taken a shower while he was at her apartment and had walked from the bathroom to the bedroom without her clothing, telling the boy to "close your eyes."

Campbell, who suffers from mental health issues, appeared in court Tuesday with her social worker. She was taken into custody immediately following her plea so that she could begin serving her sentence.
