Pawcatuck man wanted as fugitive from justice tries to flee from courthouse

A Pawcatuck man attempted to flee from the GA10 courthouse in New London this morning after he was informed that he was wanted as a fugitive from justice from Rhode Island.

Richard R. Walsh, 32, of 109 Brookside Lane, had shown up in court for pending Connecticut charges of third-degree criminal trespass, sixth-degree larceny, second-degree failure to appear in court, third-degree burglary and attempted sixth-degree larceny, according to court officials.

When an inspector from the state’s attorney’s office told him he was wanted in Rhode Island and would be served with a fugitive warrant, Walsh attempted to run. The inspector and two judicial marshals tackled him in the hallway.

Walsh was turned over to state police. He is being held in lieu of $75,000 bond and is expected to be arraigned tomorrow on an additional charge of resisting arrest. In Rhode Island, he is facing a charge of violation of probation for drug-related crimes, according to court officials.
