A Norwich man pleaded guilty Thursday in New London Superior Court to charges that he shot at his girlfriend’s house and then attempted to get her to recant her testimony.

Nicholas Gina, 19, pleaded guilty to carrying a pistol without a permit, first-degree reckless endangerment, violation of a protective order and tampering with a witness.

Certified legal intern Cody Layton said that on Feb. 25, 2011, Norwich police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of New London Turnpike.

Layton said that Gina and the victim got into a dispute at the victim’s house. Gina asked the victim to get out of the house, which she refused to do.

Layton said Gina got a pistol and shot at a window, striking a cabinet that the victim was standing next to. The victim told police that Gina had threatened to shoot out every window in the house.

While incarcerated on May 6, Gina was on a recorded phone line in which prison officials said the person he was talking to made a three-way call to a third party, which Layton said was the victim.

Gina was recorded asking the victim to say that she had lied and to not cooperate with police.

Gina will be sentenced Aug. 1 to 10 years in prison, suspended after five years served and three years probation with the right to argue for less prison time.
