Andrew Kendzierski, a career criminal who was convicted of burglarizing and torching an 18th century farmhouse in North Stonington in 2005, has been rearrested within months of his release from prison.

State police have charged Kendzierski, 53, with stealing a portable generator and other tools from an unoccupied home on Middle Road in Preston in Preston. A trooper stopped Kendzierski’s pickup truck a short time after a resident called to complain the unoccupied truck had been parked at the end of a driveway and they could hear noises coming from the home, which was vacant and under construction. The trooper spotted the tools in the bed of the pickup truck and arrested Kendzierski and his passenger, registered sexual offender William S. Madore, 36, of Norwich.

Kendzierski is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center on charges of third-degree criminal trespass, fifth-degree larceny, interfering with police. Because he was on probation for the earlier crime, the Department of Adult Probation also charged him with violation of probation.

Kendzierski, who has a lengthy criminal record, had been released from prison on March 23, 2012 after serving a 66 month sentence for second-degree arson. On Tuesday, he appeared before Judge Susan B. Handy, the same judge who had sentenced him for the North Stonington case. She continued the case to Sept. 27 without entering a plea on Kendzierski’s behalf because his attorney was not present. The case will be handled by the same prosecutor - Lawrence J. Tytla - who handled the North Stonington case.
