A New London man who fired three rounds of ammunition toward a group of people on Green Street in June pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court Thursday to possession of ammunition by a previously convicted felon.

Javier Muniz faces up to 10 years in federal prison when Judge Janet C. Hall sentences him on Jan. 24, 2013.

According to the U.S. Attorney's office, Muniz had a .38-caliber Colt revolver with six live rounds of ammunition when he fired three rounds in the general direction of a group of people in the Green Street area on June 24, 2012.

He had three previous felony convictions in state courts for criminal possession of a firearm, burglary and robbery.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives ("ATF") and the New London Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Sarah P. Karwan and Alina P. Reynolds.
