Former school counselor and administrator Allison M. Robinson, accused of sexually assaulting a middle school student in East Lyme in 2000, is mulling a plea offer from the state that would involve a six month prison sentence followed by five years of probation.

She is required to notify the court on July 22 whether she will be accepting prosecutor Theresa Anne Ferryman’s offer to plead guilty to risk of injury to a minor in exchange for five years in prison, suspended after six months served and five years probation. 

Robinson, whose case has been pending in New London Superior Court since 2011, had previously rejected an offer involving a six-month prison sentence, 10 years probation and registration as a sexual offender, and her case was on the trial list. Judge Susan B. Handy told Robinson today that the new offer does not require sex offender registry.

Robinson, a 37-year-old married mother of two, was a middle-school counselor at the time of the alleged crimes. She went on to become assistant director of Waterford’s Friendship School, a position she left after she was charged in April 2011 with second-degree sexual assault, a felony.

The victim was 13 or 14 years old when he met Robinson while attending mandatory counseling for anger management, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. The state alleges Robinson solicited a personal and sexual relationship with the boy, providing him and his friends with alcohol and nitrous oxide (an inhalant), and having sex with the boy in her office at the middle school, in her car, at state parks and forests, and her at parents’ home in Rhode Island.

The alleged victim has also filed a civil lawsuit against Robinson and school officials, alleging that as a result of the sexual assaults, he has suffered a wide range of negative symptoms, including emotional distress, low self-esteem, distrust of people and trouble dealing with authority figures. The civil case is on hold until the criminal case is resolved.
