Norwich man pleads not guilty to stabbing cousin's boyfriend

A 30-year-old Norwich man accused of stabbing a man in New London last spring pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned Tuesday in Superior Court.

William Caraballo, whose last known address was 25 Broadway, No. 311, is charged with first-degree assault, carrying a dangerous weapon and three counts of risk of injury to a minor. Caraballo, who at the time of arrest was on special parole for six years after serving four years in prison on felony drug charges, is being held in lieu of $200,000 at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Caraballo went to the Lincoln Avenue, New London, home of his cousin, Jennifer Ramirez, on April 4 and stabbed her boyfriend, Antonio Miranda, in the stomach with a folding knife. Miranda, 24, of Waterford, suffered a collapsed lung and bleeding in the abdomen. Three children were sitting on the couch where the stabbing took place, according to police. Miranda told police that Caraballo attacked him after wrongfully accusing him of "allowing" Caraballo's cousin to take drugs.

Caraballo fled from the region following the incident and was considered an "absconder" from special parole, according to the Department of Correction. He was readmitted to prison on Oct. 13.
