A 17-year-old from Taftville was taken into custody during his appearance Tuesday in New London Superior Court in connection with an armed home invasion/robbery in Norwich on Feb. 17.

Shyhaim Chisholm of 24 S. Fifth Ave., Taftville, and two others allegedly forced their way into an apartment at 7 Broad St. on Feb. 17 and robbed the occupants. He is charged with first-degree robbery, home invasion, unlawful restraint and fifth-degree larceny.

Details of the incident have not yet been made public, but a list of items recovered during the police investigation includes a .22-caliber rifle, seedling and juvenile marijuana plants, a PlayStation 3 system and numerous video games.

Chisholm’s case was initially referred to juvenile court but was transferred to adult court due to the serious nature of the charges. Chisholm had been under home arrest and electronic monitoring following his court appearance on March 5.

Prosecutor Paul J. Narducci asked Judge Hillary B. Strackbein Tuesday to increase Chisholm’s bond from a written promise to appear in court to $100,000. Narducci said his office reviewed an arrest warrant for one of the co-defendants, who has yet to be identified, and passed it on to the judge, who signed the warrant and set bond at $200,000. He said Chisholm had cooperated with the investigation and had been armed with a flashlight, not a handgun or BB gun that was used by the others, but that a bond was appropriate.

Public defender Bruce A. Sturman said Chisholm has complied with the conditions of his release. The judge said she appreciates that, but Chisholm is accused in a serious and dangerous crime that he “participated in with his own admission.” She set the bond at $100,000 and continued the case to March 26.

Chisholm hugged his mother before judicial marshals led him to the lockup. He is expected to be housed at the Manson Youth Institution in Cheshire.
