Groton man sentenced to four years in prison for sexually assaulting teenage girl

A judge in New London on Tuesday sentenced 33-year Chad Anderson of Groton to four years in prison for the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl.

Anderson was arrested on Feb. 13 following an investigation by detectives with the state police Eastern District Major Crime Unit at Troop E in Montville. Police said Anderson sexually assaulted the girl on multiple occasions in 2022 while staying with one of her family members in Griswold.

Anderson, as part of a plea agreement with state prosecutors, pleaded guilty to the charges of second-degree sexual assault. His prison sentence will be followed by 10 years of sexual offender probation and registration on the state’s sexual offender registry.

The victim in the case spoke through tears in New London Superior Court on Tuesday about how the assault had impacted many aspects of her life. Judge John Newson said Anderson preyed on a vulnerable youth and added, “there’s not much worse conduct than that.”
