    Of nuptials and Neanderthals

Oh, boy. If my girl person gets a load of this news out of Palm Desert, Calif., my carefree days as a bachelor dog are over. wedding at the Palm Desert Resort Country Club last weekend, the Desert Sun reported.

Scruffy Rubin and Snickers Carter had a $5,000

The nuptials featured 100 guests, cake and an open bar. Instead of receiving place-settings and silver, the couple asked for donations to the local humane society.

All in all in it sounds like a nice time at a very reasonable price for a wedding, if you are talking humans, but Scruffy and Snickers are dogs.

You can bet this was all Ms. Scruffy’s idea and Mr. Snickers was just going along with it.

    I give them two years.

In other news that just keeps getting weirder:

The Day reported that an investigation by the office of the commissioner of the state Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection found that Connecticut’s Fire Academy violated a number of procedures in recommending that New London terminate firefighter recruit Alfred Mayo three days before his graduation from the academy.

It’s looking more than ever like Mr. Mayo was discriminated against because of his race. But I’m not surprised: the report also said recruits commonly gave the “bad finger” or grabbed their crotches whenever they noticed a camera recording their actions.

With that kind of behavior being standard, I’d say the place is not run by men but by Neanderthals.

What with their knuckles getting scraped on the graffiti-scarred concrete and all, you can’t expect them to behave rationally and with dignity on any matter, can you?
