Here’s your post-game breakdown of UConn’s 80-62 win over Yale:

Napier became the first UConn player to record two triple-doubles in his career and earned the 10

^th

in program history overall. He had 14 points, a team-high 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

Four different players scored in double figures. Omar Calhoun had a team-best 18 points while senior Niels Giffey added a career-high tying 15 points and junior Ryan Boatright had 14.

Napier believes the Huskies will be better off with a balanced attack than one or two players carrying the bulk of the offensive load.

“Our depth is so crazy I don’t need to score,” Napier said. “We don’t need somebody who is going to score 20 plus every game…. It’s going to be all-around scoring. It should be that way.

“Everybody here wants to be the big guy on campus, the guy that wants to be the scorer. We don’t need all that. We just need somebody to chip in and know their roles.

“My role is to get guys open, take as many shots as I feel like I’m open with. Today I felt that I was open for seven shots and that’s all I was going to take. I’m happy with that and I’m happy with the win.”

 -- Coach Kevin Ollie was about as upset as he can get over the rebounding numbers on Monday. The Huskies lost the battle of the boards, 43-31. They allowed 22 offensive rebounds and had 21 second chance points.

It just comes down to effort, according to Ollie.

“Our rebounding effort is pride,” Ollie said. “We didn’t have pride to put that jersey on today. And I’ve got to go back to the drawing board as a coach and find out the guys who are going to rebound, who are going to get the ball, who are going to put bodies on the box out.

“… It just can’t happen if you want to be a great team.”

Perhaps Ollie will give senior Tyler Olander more playing time. Olander played just two minutes on Monday.

Napier, a 6-foot-1 senior, has 18 rebounds in two games. Boatright, another guard, and forward Niels Giffey each grabbed six so far this season.

-- UConn’s reserves contributed 30 points, one point less than they had in the season opener. The Huskies received 20 or more points from their bench just twice last season, including a season-best 25 against Wake Forest.

 -- Junior DeAndre Daniels is off to a bumpy start. He missed all five shots and had only one rebound in 18 minutes. He had only eight points in the season opener.

Daniels is taking good shots, but just missing. He needs to be more aggressive on both ends of the floor.

Ollie wants Daniels focus on filling up the stat sheet.  

“You want him to keep his head up, but at the end of the day you can’t baby him…,” Ollie said. “If he’s not scoring, he can do other things. The stat sheet is filled with other different columns. … He’s just got to play. He can’t worry about scoring.”

 -- UConn was on the mark from 3-point range, converting 11 of 17. Giffey (5-for-6) and Calhoun (3-for-5) both shot the ball well from beyond the arc. Boatright made both of his attempts.

“We have great shooters at every position so that will benefit us in the long run,” Calhoun said.

Giffey is 8-for-9 this season from three.

“He’s giving us a lift off the bench…,” Ollie said. “We want him to keep shooting.”

 -- Freshman center Amida Brimah blocked seven shots and altered several other attempts and also added seven points. He has 10 blocks in two games.

Brimah’s lack of strength is hurting him in the rebounding department. He had only one rebound in 24 minutes against Yale.

-- The Huskies dropped one spot in the Associated Press top 25 poll, landing at No. 19.
