    Shoulder surgery to sideline Purvis

UConn redshirt freshman Rodney Purvis will have surgery Tuesday morning on his left shoulder at the UConn Health Center in Farmington.

Purvis, a 6-foot-4 guard from Raleigh, N.C., has been practicing with the Huskies while sitting out this season after transferring from North Carolina State.

The surgery will repair a torn labrum and tighten up muscles, according to UConn. His left shoulder has bothered him since high school. An MRI revealed his condition earlier this year.

His recovery period is expected to last four to five months.

Starting next season, he'll have three years of eligibility remaining.

In other news, UConn dropped one spot to 10th in Monday's Associated Press Top 25 poll.

The Huskies return from exam break on Wednesday, hosting Stanford at 9 p.m. at the XL Center in Hartford.
