Cocoa, Fla. — Freshman Mike Johnston threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts, three walks and no earned runs as Avery Point concluded its Florida trip Monday with a 9-2 win over the Old Westbury (N.Y.) junior varsity, 9-2.

Mike Aldrich had two hits and an RBI for the Pointers (7-3) while Chris Ayer added two hits and a run.

Old Westbury is 1-3.

In other games:

• Tyler Dillinger had two triples with three RBI and a run as Bethany College, W.V., beat Mitchell, 10-8, at Fort Pierce, Fla. Brandyn Michalak had two hits, two runs and an RBI for the Pequots (0-3) while Seth Nowakowski added a double, three RBI, a run and a stolen base.

College softball

• April Trexel hit a solo home run and scored the winning run on an error with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning as Mitchell was beaten by Mount Aloysius, Pa., 5-4, in the second of two games at Myrtle Beach, S.C. Jenna Isenberg hit a home run for Mount Aloysius. Lindsey Donelin went 3-for-4, including a double, with two RBI and two runs for the Pequots (0-2) while Liz Roy added two hits, including a double, with two RBI.

Kelly Reynolds had a home run, two RBI and a run for Mitchell as it lost to Scranton, 7-4. Melanie Melia hit a solo home run for Mitchell.

Sun to audition singers

• The Connecticut Sun will hold auditions on Monday, March 24 for local singers who would like to perform the national anthem prior to home games at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Auditions will be held at the arena from 5:30-7 p.m. Candidates will be asked to sing the national anthem, a cappella, in 90 seconds or less, before a panel of judges.

Candidates must provide a current resume as well as a recorded version of the national anthem on CD. All participants will be required to sign a release prior to auditioning. Any candidate under the age of 18 is required to have the signature of a parent or legal guardian. Registration for auditions will begin at 5, and all candidates may enter the arena at the box office entrance.
