    Vikings outlast NFA in ECC Large volleyball showdown

    Norwich - Abby Van Luvanee had 16 kills and Emily Walker had 13 kills Wednesday as the East Lyme High School volleyball team defeated Norwich Free Academy 25-19, 16-25, 25-23, 16-25, 15-10 in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division.

    Olivia Formica had nine points for the Vikings (5-3, 2-1).

    Kastine Evans had 26 assists and five kills for NFA (4-2, 1-1), while Katie Wilson had 19 kills, three blocks and eight points.

    In other matches:

    ¦ Waterford outlasted Plainfield 3-2 in the ECC Small Division. Game scores were 25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 21-25 and 15-8. Katelyn Sykora led the Lancers (3-3, 2-0) with 23 assists and five aces while Allison Cavasino had 19 kills, two aces and two digs and Illiana Tidd had six kills and four blocks.

    ¦ Chelsea Ferro had 12 digs and Brooke Bailey had 10 kills and six digs as Bacon Academy defeated Montville 25-13, 25-20, 21-25, 25-10 in the ECC Small Division. Bacon is 3-3, 2-1. Lauren Giroux had 14 kills and Macy Stefanski had 13 assists for the Indians (2-3, 1-1).

    ¦ Cherokee Loftis had 10 aces, five assists and five kills as New London defeated Wheeler 25-15, 25-21, 25-23. Nicole Alicea had four aces, 10 assists and five kills for the Whalers. Ciara Haines had 10 points, three aces, three digs and one kill for Wheeler (0-6), while Kayla Bill had four points, two digs and four kills and Sarah Pitterling had five kills.

    ¦ Goodwin Tech defeated Norwich Tech 25-17, 25-18, 25-20 in the Constitution State Conference. Sam Sajkowicz had five assists and three digs for Norwich Tech (3-3, 3-3).

    ¦ Katie Freaney had three kills, eight assists, two blocks, two digs and five aces as Old Lyme defeated Hyde 25-19, 25-19, 25-18 in the Shoreline Conference. Elise Gilchrist had six kills, five assists, eight digs and three aces for the Wildcats (5-2, 5-2).

    ¦ Shannon Doiron had five aces and five digs as Lyman Memorial defeated Putnam 25-9, 25-20, 25-23 in the ECC Small Division. Elizabeth Hayes with had three aces, four kills, and 19 digs and Kena Perry had three aces five kills and 17 digs for Lyman (4-3, 3-0).

    Field hockey

    ¦ Bri Strecker and Chelsea Dazzi each scored goals in the first half and Waterford won its first game of the season, beating Morgan of Clinton 2-0. Christine Nykyforchyn made two saves in the win for the Lancers (1-3).

    Boys' cross country

    ¦ Bryan Scully (third) and Chris Schellens (fifth) led The Williams School to a team win at the Marianapolis Invite. The Blues finished with 40 points in the 14-team field.

    Girls' cross country

    ¦ The Williams School finished ninth at the Marianapolis Invite. Jessica Nowack finished eighth for the Blues over the 5K course.
