    Keeping tabs on bluesman Benoit

It’s been too long since Baton Rouge blues-rock guitarist/vocalist Tab Benoit has released a new album.

But it’s probably not fair to suggest he’s hit some sort of creative wall. After all, Benoit has other interests he likes to indulge in. For example, he’s a plumber, electrician, carpenter, chef/restauranteur, fine artist (painter), has a pilot’s license, and is active in philanthropic causes such as his Voice of the Wetlands Foundation, which seeks to repair and bring awareness to the significantly damaged Louisiana wetlands.

Of course, when you show up Monday at The Kate in Old Saybrook, it’ll be to watch Benoit sing and play guitar — two things at which he’s exceptionally great. He’s also a very funny and charismatic performer. And who knows? If your car won’t start in The Kate parking lot, maybe Benoit will fly you home.

Tab Benoit with Lightnin’ Malcolm, 7 p.m. Monday, Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $59; www.thekate.org, (860) 510-0453.
