    That guy’s a Ratt

    Stephen Pearcy (submitted)

My sister, who travels widely for her job, called last summer from someplace in the Golden West to tell me she’d just seen Stephen Pearcy of Ratt on a television commercial.

“Oh, yes, the Geico bit where Ratt plays ‘Round and Round’ in every room of the house to comically illustrate that the young couple/homeowners have a rodent problem.” I said.

“No, not that,” sis said. “This was a local ad. Pearcy is driving a Zamboni, painted with flames like a hot rod, across a hockey rink.”

“Man, it’s brutal being a forgotten rock star,” I said sympathetically. “Maybe that’s his job now. Zamboni driver. Poor fellow — but it’s an honest living.”

Sis became more insistent. “You don’t understand. He’s in full Ratt-persona and he’s apparently a celebrity endorser for a short-term moneylender in Las Vegas.”

“What does that have to do with Zambonis?” I asked.

“No idea,” sis said. “Ratt was a stupid band. But I remembered you like ‘Round and Round’ so I thought you’d be amused.”

And I was — I am! Ratt had some good tunes!

It’s worth noting that fans can see a picture of Pearcy in the Zamboni on his own website! What’s also on his website is the news that he’s playing a free solo show Saturday in the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den. Expect to reacquaint your ears with “Round and Round” and other platinum hits like “Way Cool Jr,” “Dance,” “Lay It Down” and “Back for More.”
