They’ll (still) ‘Colour’ your world
Do high schools still have proms? And if so, do couples in formal wear dance together and wait for THE slow song of the year — that arms-wrapped-around-one-another-intimately tune that serves as a melodic starting gun for sexual hormones to officially blast into overdrive?
Reading this and noting the astonishing sophistication I observe in Young Persons these days, I wonder whether the whole prom night scenario as I’ve described it is horribly quaint and antiquated.
I vaguely remember my senior year, when the go-to prom night ballad was a sappy but inarguably pretty tune of longing called “Colour My World” by Chicago.
What’s that?!
“Colour My World” is STILL the go-to prom night ballad?!
I’ll be damned.
Here’s an idea (even though it’s several weeks till your prom): Chicago performs Friday at the Mohegan Sun Arena. In addition to many, many more hits from their half-century’s catalog, they will certainly play “Colour My World.” The mirror ball will rotate seductively — or nauseatingly, if you’ve poured a little too much gin in the punch bowl — and you can practice for the big night.
Chicago, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Mohegan Sun Arena; $39.50-$79.50; mohegansun.com.
