    Great (Darrell) Scott!

    Darrell Scott (submitted)

Those tune-crafters who get established in Nashville are distinctive for A) being wealthy and B) their virtual anonymity.

The truth is, a lot of your favorite country artists don’t write their own material, relying instead on largely unknown folks like Darrell Scott — an artisan composer whose songs have been covered by The Chicks, Brad Paisley, Faith Hill, Guy Clark, Keb’ Mo’, Montgomery Gentry, Travis Tritt, Patty Loveless, Dave Alvin, Sam Bush and on and on.

Here’s the thing, though. Scott is also a fine singer and an excellent musician — plus he’s released several solo albums. If you’ve never heard him do his own “Uncle Lloyd,” for example, well, you’re missing greatness.

Or maybe not. Scott plays Old Saybrook’s Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center Thursday. It’s a helluva good way to start off the weekend.

Darrell Scott, 7:30 Thursday, The Kate, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $36; thekate.org, (860) 510-0453.
