Dwight “The Professor” Baldwin, the late New London percussionist who combined virtuosic African rhythms with a commitment to the city’s youth through educational drum circles, will be honored Sunday with the dedication of a memorial adjacent to Parade Plaza.

Officially called the Dwight Baldwin Musical Park, it features a permanent drums and benches installation. The park is a New London Cultural District project, and the organization hosts the 11 a.m. ceremony along with city councilor Akil Peck. There will be cultural performances by local artists as well as remarks and remembrances by family and friends. Along with the installation, a Black Heritage Trail marker will also be erected.
