    Tunes times three

    Fleet (submitted)

Melodic power trio Marvelous Liars have done many wonderful musical things over the years, including the “Another Castaway” and “Marvelous Liars” albums, as well as the “helping rock die a little slower” mission statement.

It’s good to see them pop up here at the end of 2023 to remind us that, indeed, rock’s heart is still beating (which hopefully gets that Huey Lewis song stuck in your head). The Liars are performing Friday in Norwich at the Strange Brew Pub.

It’s a fine bill with the versatile Fleet headlining, and be sure to call out for their driving, chorus-happy singles “Charmed” (delightfully Foster-the-People-esque) and “What Remains,” which I’d compare to classic Uriah Heep, but chances are the guys in the band weren’t born when UH was excellent.

Oh, and don’t be late to the show because the young and very impressive Mad Mesa will be opening promptly. It’s a fine way to roar into the New Year weekend.

Fleet with Marvelous Liars and Mad Mesa, 8:30 p.m. Friday, Strange Brew Pub; 86 Water St., Norwich; $10; strangebrewct.com.
