Young bands helping young patients
A fine assemblage of young up-and-coming bands are gathering Sunday in Westerly Knickerbocker Music Center to perform at the “Rock for a Cause” benefit.
Corvus, Purple Tide, Pop and Element 88, all students in the United Theater’s RI Phil Music School, will take the stage to help the Hasbro Children’s Hospital Cancer Ward in Providence.
Liam Young, a freshman at Grasso Technical High School and participant in the RI Phil music program, came up with the idea for the benefit and, over several months, he and fellow students have designed the event’s posters and T-shirts, coordinated the date, and worked together to get the show together.
In addition to merch for sale, there will be raffle items and other prizes. All proceeds go directly to Hasbro.
Rock for a Cause, 5:30-9 p.m. Sunday, Knickerbocker Music Center, 35 Railroad Ave., Westerly; $10; knickmusic.com.
